No More Complaining!
May 7, 2008
Do you complain a lot? I know I sure do.
Sunday at church our pastor introduced me (and the rest of the congregation) to a worldwide campaign towards a complaint free world. You can find more information on this here. It’s called A Complaint Free World (imagine that).
Basically what happens is you take this bracelet (one of those Livestrong bracelets) and put it on your wrist (duh). Then you attempt to go 21 days without complaining. 21 because it takes 21 consecutive days of not doing something to break the habit of doing it. Every time you complain, you have to switch the bracelet from one wrist to the other. It’s supposed to teach you to think before you speak, and obviously not to complain.
It’s really not as easy as it sounds, and I’ve actually found myself asking whether something is actually a complaint. But I think there is a difference between a fact and a complaint.
Fact: I’m tired.
Complaint: I’m so tired.
Fact: Our team has lost seven games this season.
Complaint: Our team sucks.
Also, gossiping and criticizing others can be considered complaints. I think.
Anyway. It’s really neat I think. And it is actually helping me learn not to complain. Most of the time I find myself saying things like “That sucks.” But I’m trying!
You should try it (: P.S. I don’t think you have to use their bracelet d: I’m using one of my own that I got somewhere.
Thanks and God Bless
